FTP information:
There are multiple ways to FTP files to your site.
- Arrow recommends the following FTP program: WS_FTP LE (this version is a free version) and you can obtain it by downloading from http://www.ftpplanet.com/download.htm. Once downloaded and installed, enter the following information:
Click NEW (on the right-hand side of the program)
Profile name: Your Domain Name (whatever you will recognize this as; this can be whatever you choose)
Host Name/Address: YourDomain.com (or YourDomain.org)
Host Type: Automatic Detect
Userid: Provided to you by Arrow when you signed up
Password: Provided to you by Arrow when you signed up
Check the SAVE PWD box.
Account and Comment can be left blank.
Click on the STARTUP tab at the top of the program and where it says Initial Remote Host Directory enter: /public_html <---all of your web files should always be placed in THIS directory
Where it says Initial Local Directory you can enter the directory on your hard drive where you are storing your files, if you wish.
Go back to the GENERAL tab and click OK. Your program will connect to your web server now.
If you have a problem, check all your settings. Most likely something was entered incorrectly.
- An easy way to upload files is to log in to the control panel for the site you want the files to go to and go into the "File Manager" section. This will allow you to upload files directly through the control panel. For a video tutorial on how to do this click here.
- If you wanted to try to FTP with a Internet browser, what you would do is this:
ftp://69.41.234.242
You then would be prompted to enter in your Web site login and password. You would then put your files in the "public_html" directory as well. HOWEVER, FTPing through a browser is the slowest method.
In all cases what you want to use is the particular login for the Web site itself and not your reseller account login.
WebMail:
Webmail is provided to you FREE OF CHARGE when hosting with Arrow.
You can login to your webmail with the following URL: http://www.YourDomain.com/webmail
Enter your complete email id at the login screen, such as myname@mydomain.com and then your password. You can select from NeoMail, Horde mail or Squirrel mail to view your webmail.
If you choose not to use email, or you would like to use email AND Outlook Express (for example you use Outlook Express at home, but want to be able to check your mail from work using webmail) you can set up Outlook with the following specs:
Start up Outlook.
Click TOOLS
Then click ACCOUNTS
Click the MAIL tab.
Then click ADD (MAIL)
Display name: Your name
Click NEXT
Email address: enter your email address (such as info@YourDomain.com)
Incoming mail Pop server: webmail.YourDomain.com
Outgoing SMTP server: webmail.YourDomain.com
Click Next
Account name: yourname (provided by Arrow)
Password: your password (provided by Arrow)
Click NEXT
Then FINISH
Where to put your Web Pages
If you look at your account you will see a folder marked:
"public_html"
This is where you need to put your web pages. Do not put your web pages in the www folder, just the public_html folder.
Important paths for the advanced web programmer:
What is the path to Sendmail, Perl, etc.?
If you need the absolute path to your files or perl for a program or script this will help you.
The path to Perl is "usually": /usr/bin/perl
You can find out for sure by checking the path inside your control panel. The path for your server is listed there.
If you need the path to your files on the server it will be either of two places:
/usr/home/your-login/public_html
or
/home/your-login/public_html
You would need to replace "your-login" with the login of the site you need the files.
The public_html directory is where you place your web pages. If you need the path to the cgi-bin, just add "/cgi-bin" to the end of the line. For example:
/usr/home/your-login/public_html/cgi-bin
So how do you know whether you use the "/usr" at the front?
If you are on a FreeBSD machine then you need it. If you are on a Linux machine then you probably don't.
Assume that you are on a LINUX machine as almost all of Arrow's servers are LINUX.

Server Specs: |
|
One
of most commonly asked questions is what are the specifications
of the server my site will be on. The servers we purchase
are state of the art, top of the line, servers from Dell
Corporation. Each has, on average, 1 GB of ECC RAM, and
uses the current Pentium Processor at the time of purchase.
We spend thousands of dollars on our servers for quality
servers. We don't believe servers are the place to save
money because our clients demand reliability not cost cutting. |
